ELGIN Chairman Shane O'Neill has been appointed to the Government's Local Public Data Panel.

The Panel is an independent body that advises Government on issues relating to the release and use of local public data. It is chaired by Professor Nigel Shadbolt, Government Transparency and Open Data Advisor who commented:

Your expertise in this field and work with ELGIN and local authorities have been recognised by existing Panel members and we would be delighted if you could join us on the Local Public Data Panel

Shane O'Neill commented:

I am delighted to join the Local Public Data Panel. Local data is the closest to people's real lives, but problems of access compounded with the need to aggregate across hundreds of  local bodies makes it  one of the most challenging aspects of the whole public sector information transparency drive.

Shane O'Neill also sits on the Government's Advisory Panel for Public Sector Information (APPSI) and is Chairman of ELGIN (Electronic Local Government Information Network).
